As a child, Amelia spent her time building dollhouses, doodling and playing outside. Not much has changed since then except that instead of building dollhouses, she builds complicated tanks for her fish to swim around in as part of her Ph.D. at the University of California, Davis. She is broadly interested in how the experiences that a fish has as a baby affects its behavior later in life. In part, she is interested in this because she wants to be able to understand why some fish respond to change better than other, and in part, she is interested in this because she wants to understand why she is so bad at dealing with change. Many of her videos feature a special guest star–her dog, Darwin.
