Alex Jenstch | Vlogger, Nuclear Physicist + Musician

Alex is from a pretty normal family, from a pretty normal town just outside of Houston, TX. In grade school and high-school, he spent much of his time reading books on science, playing music with various bands, and taking things apart to learn how they worked. He went to the University of Texas at Austin for undergrad, starting in Electrical Engineering… and fell flat on his face trying to work a full-time job to pay rent, and manage his course load. After recalibrating, and switching majors to his true love, physics, he went on to complete his degree and started working in nuclear and particle physics. He spent two years after undergrad building particle detectors, and then applied for and entered graduate school at UT Austin. He earned his Ph.D. in nuclear physics in May 2019, and is now a post-doctoral research associate at Brookhaven National Laboratory working on the STAR Experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), and on the upcoming Electron-Ion Collider. He is incredibly passionate about science, and about helping people from non-science backgrounds gain an understanding of how science impacts their lives. He also spends time learning about climate science to better be able to discuss the impacts with non-scientists. He believes SciAll is an amazing resource both for aspiring scientists, and for non-scientists to better understand that scientists are also just normal people.
