In 2012, I made an unexpected splash with a video about being a marine biologist.

This video excited a diversity of non-scientists of all ages and backgrounds. This experience made me appreciate the power of internet-based video as a unifying force between science and the general public (which science is intended to serve, but fails at doing so without public support).

In 2014, nature interrupted my research to take my breath away.

This unexpected experience in my final hours living and doing research full-time on the island of Mo’orea in French Polynesia instilled in me an appreciation for the interconnectedness of all life. We are all in this together, but we need science to point us in the right direction to succeed. If we ignore science and the objective truths it offers, life on Earth will suffer.
